Can you add special characters and symbols to a label?
You can add special characters and symbols to a label if the character or symbol is included in the character set for the font you are using. Note that if you use a font that is not natively supported by your printer, the symbol or character will print as a graphic.

Occasionally you may need to use characters that usually are not found on your computer's keyboard. This is possible using the American Standards Institute (ANSI) character set, which includes 256 characters, numbered 0 to 255.

To use an ANSI character on your label:

  1. Locate the character you want on the ANSI chart and notice its corresponding decimal code. (An ANSI chart is provided in the program Help file; search on "ANSI" in the Help Index to access the chart.)
  2. Press to activate the numeric keypad on your keyboard if the keypad is not already active.
  3. Enter a tilde (~) character (this key is usually found on your keyboard near the top left corner below the key) and then type the decimal code from the ANSI chart on your numeric keypad. Type another tilde character after the numeric code.

For example, to type the Registered Trademark symbol ® within a line of text, you would first locate it on the ANSI charts below and notice that its character code is 174. Then you would type the following:
~174~
This will generate a ® symbol on the design screen and on the printed label.

Special characters can also be added using the Combination data origin:

  1. From the Data tab, set the image's origin to Combination.
  2. Click the Other button located on the Combination setup dialog, select Special Character and click OK.
  3. Select the desired ANSI character and click OK. Look at the Sample box to see how the character will appear on the label.
